I need help from the experts.

The attached pictures are of my Remington Sportsman 48, 12 guage, 2 3/4 or shorter shells. It is equipped with a Cutts/Lyman Adjustable Comp. Tube. The checkering appears to be in good shape except for one small scuff spot on the bottom of the fore arm. The rest of the stock has a few light scratches from age/use as expected. The serial number is 3078180. As seen in the attached pictures there is some (pitting??) I think you call it that on the outside of the receiver. The exterior of the barrel looks good. The interior of the barrel appears to be spotless. The inside of the receiver has not been cleaned lately "my fault". I really don't know how to clean the inside of an automatic shotgun correctly. This gun was part of the estate when my parents passed away. I understand production of this model stopped in 1968. As you will see in the pictures, on the barrel next to the receiver there is a "double Y stamp". Don't know what that means. I tried to take a good picture of the inside of the barrel several different ways and the one I'm using was the best I could get.

As this gun is going on the block I need to get a guess-timate of it's value. I don't want to over or under price it. And I need to know if the comp-tube is a hinderence or not.

Thanks for any help/advice you can give. DSCF2363crop.jpg

The compensator is going to hurt you.

The Sportsman's 48 was the less-fancy version of the 11-48, with less polishing and cheaper wood.

A Remington 11-48 complete and unaltered sells for about $250 around here.

    Thanks Steve.
By the way. What would a model 11-48 automatic in 28guage in good condition sell for?

    28 gauge? That's a whole 'nuther story.

Few 28 ga. 11-48 shotguns were made. I can't say how much they sell for now, but it's more than the common 12 or 20 ga.

A Remington collector would know more about the current value, or you could check on one of the online auction sites.

But is that a remake or an old one?

Old one. To my knowledge no one is making a modern version of the 11-48.
