A while back here, I bought a .22 rimfire version, of the venerable M1, carbine .30cal. It looks nice out a the box, but before I got to take it to the range, I was monkeying with the safety switch :eek:and out it came, no tools needed. Also following closely behind were several springs, two ball bearings, an approximately 1/4" long X 3/16 diameter chrome cylinder, and the mag lock. After several very frustrating attempts at reassembly, in the process losing both ball bearings and a spring. I had no choice but to make my own parts. I chose to make the ball bearings into cylinders and got a spring from a bic lighter to replace my long lost original. Instead of using my lap in the living room, I used my gun vice in the shop and after an hour of sweaty, foul language; Viola! :DThe squared edges of the cylinders made the adjustments in the sloppiness of the safety, and the mag latch works perfectly.
