Good evening,
I checked on S&W forum & received good answers. Thought I would try here also. S&W 1917 .45ACP Brazilian contract. Beat up. I took it apart, ordered parts then sanded, polished, had reblued, looks pretty good. Cleaned, installed parts and checked out using Jerry Kuhnhausen's book. Works as advertised, shoots better than I can hold it. The hammer block is a pressed in part on the side plate, when the gun is cocked the hand cams against the block and pushes into the side plate. Finally, my question. With gun cocked, I can look into the area in front of hammer, where pin will go through & strike primer. I can see about 1/16th to 1/32 of the hammer block sticking out. Person on S&W forum tolk me block should not be seen & should be pushed completely back into side plate. I think he is correct, but would like more opinions. J. Kuhnhausen does not mention this in his book as he does not talk about the 1917 spcecifically.
Thanks,
Rn Grnwd
