I inherited a Savage 25-35 Model 1899 Serial#98854 from my grandfather. The barrel is half-round,half- octagon and the condition is good. The patent numbers are Feb.7,1893 July 25,1893 and Oct 3,1893.(all 3 are stamped in.) I was just wondering if someone on the forum could give me an approx. date it was made.
    THANKS,
    Kent

Welcome to the forum Kent, fell free to jump in and join the fun.

    Your savage 99 in caliber 25-35 #98854 was made in 1910. I believe they came in six different models (A, B, C, D, E, F, & H). Which model do have?

Thanks 199er...How did you come up with the year? Also, how do you know which letter model it is? I was THRILLED to get the gun. It is in REALLY good shape, and I plan on getting in some good shooting as soon as the bullets I ordered come.

    Go here: http://www.savage99.com/savage99_dates.htm

I don't, you will need a copy of the Blue Book of Gun Values or access to one to determine the model #. There are over 30 listings for the model 99 in the bookand you need to get a copy to correctly identify your particular model.

    Go here: https://store.bluebookinc.com/Firearms/Default.aspx

Here's a resource you will find useful for disassembly/assembly.

I recommend before you shoot your 99 get it checked by a certified gunsmith to insure it's safe to shoot, then give it a good cleaning, and then good luck on the range!!
