I recently inherited two firearms from my grandfather. One is a Savage Model 340A, chambered in .30-30 Win. I can't find the serial number on it anywhere. I am beginning to wonder if it was rebarreled. It has a Dockendorff rear sight. Where can I find the S/N?

I can't find a model 340A in the books, but I can see the 340. It was made between 1950 and 1985 which, if made in the early years (pre-68), it may not have a serial number. You may want to take the stock off to see if there is anything on the side of the receiver. If not, then it is an earlier model.

    In EXC condition - $250
    VG $200
    Good $175
    Fair $125
    Poor $90

    Hope this helps.

Thanks Plano. I can't see anything on the receiver, so it must be an older model.

I've had a Stevens model 322A in .30-.30 that I have been trying to sell for $200.00 for about 4 years. Its the same as the Savage 340.Nobody seems to want this gun in 30-30.If it was in .222 or .223 or .22 hornet you could get $350.00 for them.Mine is a tack driver.I bought a Rem. 700 in 6MM that I absolutly love for deer to replace the Stevens.A bit less recoil too.
