I've seen and heard several disparaging comments regarding the VA, and it's treatment (or lack thereof) of Veterans. Well, there's another side to it, that many folks aren't looking at, or they're not aware of it.......

    Rant on.....

Well, we've got two different things going here........

    1 Treatment of Vets

    2. PTSD

Too many people throw PTSD around like it's a blanket condition. There are many, many different ways that PTSD can present itself. It changes with the person, and the stimulus. It's more intense with some, than others, even when both persons have been exposed to the same stimulus. Read up on it.

    Quote:
"We also have a problem with homeless vetrans and vetrans returning from conflict zones who are not receiving adequate care."

Any idea why? Well, I'll tell ya.........

The frickin' politicians AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC have to realize that the VA can only do so much with the funds they're allocated. The Vets that are in the VA system are getting excellent care. I can say that without reservation because I'm one of the folks that provide that care. There are thousands of Vets currently in the system, that have no need, they're in only because they can be. People need to inquire of the VA, and find out just how the system works before making statements about the care, or lack of care provided by the VA. Example: Vet #123 has been admitted for "xxxxx" condition due to combat injuries..... he refuses to eat properly... (vets can eat whatever they want).....he refuses to shower.... (vets can't be forced to shower)..... he refuses is meds.... (vets can't be forced to take meds)....... he doesn't go to therapy.... (vets can't be forced to do therapy)....... so his treatment team decides to discharge him.......... HOWEVER...... he has to have a safe, clean, appropriate place to go..... or he stays in the VA. He cannot just be put out on the street. He's taking up space that a vet wanting to recover can't gain access to. Now, this type of Vet is not the normal, but it's just an example of what can happen that causes delays in treating some Vets. If the VA is a glass, and the Vets are water, you can only get so much water in the glass. Congress has to make the glass larger, but they're too damn busy demanding bigger jets to travel in, avoiding the VA situation just so they can hate Bush more, or taking their little bribes from their favorite PAC.

    I'll say it again.....

People need to inquire of the VA, and find out just how the system works before making statements about the care, or lack of care provided by the VA.

Va facilities are taxpayer supported. They are not restricted access. Go visit one anytime of the day or night, and see if you find maltreatment, When you don't find any, report that.

Rant over.... excuse me, I let my PTSD show a bit.

I visited the Martinez, Ca VA Hospital on Veterans Day. Very nice facility & I saw nothing but smiling Vet faces.
