Sharpen your blade with a coffee cup

    I also have ceramic cylinders. Used primarily for trigger jobs but they make great edge hones. I finished the edge on my ghurka with them.

    I first learned about this honing effect by watching my Step father re-hone a double edge razor blade in a glass. He explained his father taught him the trick because during the great depression you had to use the same blade many times as possible. Now I wonder how many people under the age of 30 know what a double edge razor blade is:D

    The key is that the sharpener must be harder than the item being sharpened.

    Cardboard makes a wonderful strop.

    the old timers used to use the inside edge of a ceramic crock to put an edge on.

    Dag nabbit, styrofoam and coffee all over my desk. What a dumb idea. Nobody said nothing about the cup having to be empty. :mad:
