it's not that hard to figure out how to sharpen the straight blade. but the back edge has a reversed curve which presents somewhat of a challenge. what i normally do is use the edge of the whetstone on this area.

it got me to thinking and wondering what others did.

also what is the purpose of the back edge? is just to give an advantage in fighting?

If you slash with the knife and the long edge leads, and you miss, the short (false) edge, when sharpened, will allow you to slash in the opposite direction, without having to turn the knife over, or re-cock your arm. The (false) edges on my K-Bars are sharpened, but few K-Bars come with that edge sharpened. It's personal preference.

Sharpening the false edge may be done easily by using a round stone in diminishing grits until the desired edge is obtained.

Also, the false edge, if sharpened, allows for easier penetration if you are stabbing.
