    Hello all,
Im wondering if anyone can tell me about a Sharps New Model 1863. I got it from my Grandfather and was hoping to get some info. Its has what I believe is a serial number on the "Tang" of (C,329). It has slight surface rust on a few places and Dark wood with the expected dings on it. I'm not planning on selling it but need to know if I need to get a new safe. Thanks for all who post..

What is the barrel length? The picture makes the barrel look longer than the 22" carbine barrel. Assuming it is a carbine, and the rest has the same even patina, a guestimate would be around $3000-4000. If the primer magazine works, add several hundred.

The barrel measures about 21 3/8" from the front to the receiver where the wood forgrip meets the receiver. Do you have any idea if this might have been a military rifle.
