was wondering if any special steps need to be taken when cleaning a shotgun with removable choke tubes....I would imagine that the shokes need to be removed and cleaned individually but what do you guys use for the threads of the barrel and the tube?? any tips at all are welcome My new scatter gun is the first one I've owned that wasn't a fixed choke some I'm a little nervous about the threads getting damaged or corroded and ruining the versatility of the firearm thanks.
Clean the shotgun as if it were a fixed choke. Then, remove the choke, and use a nylon brush on the threads (inside AND out.) Spin a patch in the inside threads to pick up any stuff knocked loose. Lube the threads of the choke and spin it back into place. Run a patch through to catch any stuff you might have knocked loose, lube the bore and put it away.
Ditto what Armedandsafe and teacherboy said. Always store your shotgun with the choke tubes in the shotgun.
