Okay bought my kid a new Rugar 10/22 open sights no scope for now, is there such a thing as sighting an open sight rifle similar to sighting a scope rifle with a sight bench?

Sure is Jackman. Best thing to do is get it on the bench and shoot at 25yds and see how it's shooting. I havent seen an adjustable iron sight that didnt need some fine tuning. The rear sights on the 10/22 should be fully adjustable.

they are drift adjustable for windage with a non marring punch and hammer. rear sight goes the direction you want the bullet impact to go... there should also be a small set screw and a leaf with hash marks in it to set elevation, again go where the bullet needs to go.

I would go out and fire at least 50 rounds before adjusting the sights, most new .22s require a good fouling before they settle in, and dont clean the bore til accuracy falls off, which will most likely be more rounds fired than you can afford at one time....

    Have fun and merry christmas:)
