Smith & Wesson 38sp What Model ?Year?

    Say can you tell me what model this S&W 38sp is and what it may be worth my son picked it up at a gun shop as a guy was coming out bought 3 guns off the guy as they weren't buying in the gun shop down there..on top of rib it says
    Smith & Wesson Springfield Mass. USA PatD FEBY 20TT. DEC18 77, MAY 11 80 SEPT 11 83 OCT 2 85 TWO AUC 4 85 serial # is 5 digits 1150_ all the plating is rub off pretty much..cylinder has same serial number also ..

    I'm no S&W expert, but it looks like a 38 Safety Hammerless (2nd Model). If so, its worth a couple hundred bucks in the condition I see.

    I doubt that it is a .38 special.
    More likely a .38S&W which is a different cartridge than the Special

    Okay so it's a 38 S&W so do you have any idea when it was made ?

    Based on the serial number range that they were made and your serial number 1888

    Wow thanks for your help on it really appreciated all your kindness and knowledge my son also bought a Johnson 30-06 from the guy I guess he'd wasn't offered enough in pawn shop so my son just got lucky walking in to take a look..the 06 is in really excellent condition ...Thanks again..Car

    I doubt that S&W would bring more than $100-125 in that condition, but values vary around the country. If the Johnson rifle is the Model 1941 semi-auto, and it is in good condition, it could be worth quite a bit. Ones in top condition bring $7000+, average condition around $4000.
