I have one in about 90% condition with replacement S&W grips. It has the Brazilian crest on the side and I'm at a loss to determine a reasonable value. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

don't quote me i believe for what the reason the 1917's with the brazilian crest don't seem to bring the same bucks as the ones never imported. but in the event i'm wrong and the value is the same or nearly the same these things go for anywhere between 500 ( 60% ) to about 1300( 85/90%) also the price depends on issued or civilian ?

Those guns can bring good money in top condition, around $1400 for the import marked ones and twice that for non import marked. In average condition, the values are in the $800/1400 range. Some were made using M1917 parts, complete with U.S. eagle marks. The original contract was for 25,000 guns, reportedly for issue to graduates of the Brazilian Naval Academy. Many have cracked grips, but it is best not to replace them as that would reduce the value.

if it is a recent import $300 to $400 if refinished. Like jim said, Original 90% condition makes the price go real high.

Thanks for the responses, Gentlemen. I was looking up values for insurance purposes. It's an original "re-import" I bought when they first hit our shores 15? 20? years ago. I paid $229.00 plus dealer mark up. It's original except for the grips which I had to replace to shoot it. I had no idea the value had gone up like that.

    Terry G,
I too have one of the S&W Brazilian "1917" revolvers; mine is arsenal refinished with replacement grips like yours. I rarely shoot it but it still shoots very well.
