Lew Horton released around 5000 of these smith mod 24-3 revolvers in 44spl. This one is in top shape and looks unfired with the original box and unopened cleaning kit and owners manual. I get conflicting values. I have seen them listed for 950.00 and the book value doesnt line up with that price at all. What is your opinion on this nice revolver? I think they were released around 1981 or so. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance....

It's a nice looking gun?????????;) I like the grips look to be Goncalvo Alves wood and nicely contoured. I have a M19 with grips very similar to those and fit me very well.
As to price - without any supporting evidence, I'd estimate close to a Grand:confused:

I passed on one of those 5yrs ago at a gun show...although it wasn't 'NIB' it was in great condition...$600 was the best price at that time. The fella that had it said it 'barked' pretty good w/ full load .44 spcl. rounds. Gotta love the triggers on the S&W revolvers, I have a 4" heavy barrel mod 10-5 .38 spcl w/ similar grips....I like it alot and handles the .38 +P ammo just fine....I think mine was born in 1982. Great guns!!

What I was really looking for was everyones opinion on the value. Thanks for your replies. The blue book puts it around 350-400.00. I saw one listed for 1250.00 and one for 950.00. Not sure if they sold. I am thinking blue book is pretty far off here. I am going to say 650-700.00? It seems like way to nice a gun for 400.00.

    Blue book is insane.

I had a 24-3. Bought it in 81 for 400. 6 1/2" barrel. Swapped it a couple of years ago for a NIB Model 22 Thunder Ranch 1950 4" 45 ACP. MSRP on the 22, at the time, was about 700. I decided I didn't like that long skinny barrel. A Lew Horton, with a 3" barrel and round butt would be much more fun - to me, at least. As good as that looks, with the box, I think 700 ain't too much to ask. For sure would not let them talk me down less than 6. If you got the paper, and the tools are still sealed in the plastic bag, I'd add another 50 bucks to the price.

DD, around central Ohio any nice N frame is going to be in the +/- $700.00 for a used gun no box or papers but nice. I think if I was putting on the table I would ask $795 and not drop below the $700 mark. The reason I didn't speak up earlier is I don't trust my self to look at that gun very much. :D:

Sorry Todd! But thanks for your replies. I have the original box and papers and I dont see any trace of powder anywhere on the gun. It is so nice, I am having a real hard time talking myself into selling it. Its a hoss of a wheel gun. Stout as they come. A real fine speciman.

OK, here are the values as listed in the latest Blue Book:

    Model 24 Lew Horton Special
    - .44 Spl., 3 in. barrel, round butt, adj. rear sight, blue finish, includes special fitted holster.
    Grading 100% 98% 95% 90% 80% 70% 60%

    $395 $335 $275 $240 $210 $185 $160

If the condition is not absolutely perfect, it cannot be considered 100%. My estimate is that your pistol is worth around $350

Good try alpo! No, the blue book got this one wrong. I just cant believe how wrong. I just looked one up that sold for 799.00. I have an offer of 600.00 right now. I will probably keep it.
