Your gun was made in 1974. S&W started selling the Model 66 in 1970, so yours is an earlier gun. The Model 66s was made until the early 2000's.

The 4" barrel is the most common Model 66. Your NIB early gun is sought-after by S&W collectors. It would go for $450-$500 around here, and maybe more in other parts of the country.

    Backdraft,
I also have a very early Model 66 (no dash) from the early '70s and today these guns are serious collector pieces. The very early ones were made with a much harder stainless steel that was wearing out the tooling at S&W so they changed to to a softer metal, also the back sight was stainless and a problem to machine (cost wise) so S&W changed it to the blued ones. I'm hearing S&W collectors are paying in excess of $1000.00 for the first models of the 66 (no dash) that were made.

@ Oneida Steve, I did not mean any dis-respect Steve. I found out about this info and saw this post and thought I'd let the info out....The fact that this post started three years ago shouldn't mean anything...I always heard the same thing about the price tag on a S&W mod.66 (no dash) Today they are a collectors item going for some nice money! If someone had one, I bet they would like to know this !!!
