Here are some very interesting and quite appropos quotes from today's "Federalist."

"Make the most of the present moment. No occasion is unworthy of our best efforts. God often uses the humble occasions and little things to shape the course of a man's life." --President James Garfield

"At times a great crisis comes in which a great people, perchance led by a great man, can...make a long stride in advance along the path of justice and orderly liberty." --Theodore Roosevelt

"The quality of American life must keep pace with the quantity of American goods. This country cannot afford to be materially rich and spiritually poor." --John F. Kennedy

"The role of a judge is a limited one. It is to...interpret the Constitution, where called upon, but at no point to impose his or her will or his or her opinion in that process." --Clarence Thomas

"The abandonment of original understanding in modern times means the transportation into the Constitution of the principles of a liberal culture that cannot achieve those results democratically." --Judge Robert Bork

"Restoring the Framers' notion of enumerated, delegated and thus limited powers will get the state out of our lives and out of our wallets." --Bob Levy

"Like Israel, but in a much more powerful way, America embodies a different -- a nonconforming -- idea of the good, and refuses to abandon its moral clarity about the objective worth of that idea or of the free habits and institutions to which it has given birth." --Natan Sharansky

"I sometimes wonder whether a nation that sends girls like Jessica Lynch into battle and punishes soldiers like Lt. Col. Allen West is quite in its right mind." --Mona Charen

"If adultery has always been understood as involving a man and a woman, how much more so has marriage always been an opposite-sex institution?" --Jeff Jacoby

"It was obvious that the democratization of the media would bring new voices into the field, but who knew that so many of those voices would be conservative, libertarian, or just cantankerously opposed to entrenched liberal doctrine?" --John Leo

"The death of an American soldier is front page news, while the death of his attacker is buried deep inside the paper, if reported at all. But there's another reason why the response to attacks are rarely reported. The military judiciously applies force, which means there's often no big explosion to show the viewing public back home. The enemy blows up civilians, while coalition forces use precision strikes to remove enemy combatants. But more to the point, the media are a lazy beast and, it seems, the Pentagon hasn't been doing a good job feeding it." --Wall Street Journal

One of the best books I've read lately is the well written and documented biography of Clarence Thomas by Andrew Peyton Thomas .

I would highly recommend it for all, especially those who value the Constitution and precepts of the Founding Fathers.
