Hi, I looked at a double barrel shotgun for a friend, who was going to barter this gun it to a guy for some horse wagons. On the left side of the receiver it says "Spencer Machine Gun", and on the right side it says "Pat. June 30 1883 Belgium". Its in pretty nice condition as far as I can tell, Inside the barrels could be cleaned a bit lol. I don't have the gun in front of me so the pics I have is all I've got for you. I can't seem to find much on the net with any information about it, and I'm not to good with antiques and older firearms.
Was looking for any help with what it may be worth? The metal seems a bit worn, the guy said it was last fired 15 years ago, worked fine.
Ya that does look a lot like it. I wasn't able to remove the forearm or barrels when I had it in front of me, so I didn't get pics of any of the proof marks, sorry. Right before the barrels led into the forearm there was a small mark, looked like a 6, but that's all I had access to when I saw it. I'll ask and see if the guy will send me a couple.

Yeah. Aside from it not being proofed for smokeless ammo, it is almost certainly chambered for 2 1/2" shells. Shooting 2 3/4" shells in a 2 1/2" gun is hard on it.
I'm not sure what shells he used in it, as I asked him, I assumed it wouldn't fire modern shells, but paper shells or early ammo. And the guy that owns it is not my friend lol. My friend's looking to barter for it wants to know the value so he can trade for it, and later get it to someone who collects them and such. When I looked at it I didn't think it could even be fired, nor would I try to fire it.
It looks like a well made Belgium shotgun, but value, hard to say unless they are top of the line guns. That one is nice but it has been rode hard and put away wet. Values of these old Belgium doubles, like every thing else, has risen lately, but even so I would give a WAG at 2 to 4 hundred. Others may have more valid information or opinions on values, if so, lets hope they chime in.
Well the guy seems to think its worth $1500, that coupled with a pre-civil war musket he was trying to pawn off in the same deal. Personally, I didn't think the musket was worth a penny, but still I know not much about those either. Few pics of it below.

.50 Cal, several cracks in the stock behind the grip. ram rod holder is busted in a few places as well. Barrel seems a bit off to me, odd finish on it. No #'s, the guy said he got it for working for a guy and that guys great grandfather carried it in the war. No markings or anything, looks built?

The rifle may be civil war era but it is not a cw rifle or any type of military rifle nor are any of the parts from a military rifle. I doubt he'd get 150.00 for it unless he stumbles onto a complete moron with more money than brains. The shotgun "MIGHT" bring 300.
There are several things that don't look right right about that old long arm ( other than the stock being refinished ) and Hawg is dead on, that is just an old hunting gun that I think has a couple of modern parts on it.
