Oh the things I tinker with... :eek:hmygosh:
Springfield/Stevens side by side double 12 Ga.... any one know what model? Here are pics of the receiver and the markings... As I looked around the thing.. I noticed that all the S.N.'s matched... and if you think the receiver is rough.. the rest looks the same. Bores of the barrels look good though.. a few cob webs.
Any info on the model would be great, thank you,
    Shawn Dow

And finally... my ramblings will stop... The receiver (frame) is not blued.. thats just dirt, grease, and rust! The barrels and trigger guard are the only things blued.

That silly thing that releases the barrel? that would be 2 5/8 to 2 11/16 ish... or if you will 2 21/32.

Im thinkin its a Stevens 311, or well a predescessor thereof.. Stevens quit using the springfield name circa 1948 so its older than that. Im bettn the tang length will match up with the stevens 311 hammerless and all the parts will be interchangeable.. Its only worth about 150 bucks tops so theres really no reason not to shoot it.

The tang is the strip of metal that the rear stock screw goes thru. the barrel latch lever sits on top of it..

Well, it needs a good scrubbing, and Id like to clean up the exterior of the barrels...(rust bluing?) and the safety "lever" slide is missing, need one! thats why i'm after a model #. I know the ols SXS cant be hot tanked  so I need to do something with it. My co worker who owns it wants to turn it into a "wall trophy". Poor thing... I think its begging to pop off a few rounds before I return it! :)

2 5/8 I stopped where the frame widens up just before the release lever, or do i go all the way to where the breach is?

I'm pretty sure you've got a Model 1915, or 915. If you go to the Numrich Gun Parts site and pull up the Savage/Stevens list (it's a long one) you'll eventually get to the 915/1915/311 breakdowns, and I'm pretty sure they detail which model had what tang length.

Numrichs does list some parts for it too.

    p.s. to previous...

Take a look at Bob's Gun Parts (www.gun-parts.com/savagestocks) for a breakdown of the various Savage/Springfield/Stevens models and their tang lengths.

Even though there is outside barrel pitting?? Or are those pits not deep enough to effect shooting? If not how deep does pitting get before nogo on putting rounds thru it???
