Hello, I recently posted a few days ago in the reload forum. I had my 1st and squib load. The members helped me a lot but here is my question. I was in the marine corps back in the 1990's and I just started to think what would happen if I had a squib load firing a m-60 machine gun. I thought about it and I thought about the gasses and I said to myself I don't think it would have enough compression to chamber another round, but I don't know is there any experts on this.
A gas-operated gun with a dud (it's not a squib. A squib in an intentionally light load. Too many people use the term incorrectly) will not have enough "umph" to work he action and chamber the next round.
A dud in a machinegun would mean you would have to clear the brass. Hopefully you would then have sense enough to check the barrel.
ummmm..you sure you were in the Corps? even a Squib (dud) in a M-16 was covered in basic rifle practice. Alpo is correct..even in a M-16 they will not cycle the action and ALL Marines are taught to clear the action and check for obstruction before trying to fire their firearm again. I was Navy and even we were taught this basic safty action!
