I have just purchased a late 1894 .22LR w/ original 24" full octagon take-down barrel. It appears to be a special order with no provisions for a tang site, has ejector/extractor, is over 3" long lower tang, and no patent date on barrel or reciever. serial number j474 marked on lower tang.

I will need to replace the ejector and the bore is sad. I am not sure of the collector value but i bought it to shoot and enjoy anyway. My questions are:

Do i look for another barrel or liner this one ?

If another barrel, where might i check ?

Are good used barrels still to be found ?

Will the new Model 30 take-down barrel work in early models ?

    Is 24" standard length for 1894 ?

Why would there be no predrilled tang sight holes in top tang ?

    Why no patent date ?

Does anyone out here have a Favorite with same 'j' prefix and close serial number ?

Any help or responses welcome, thanks in advance,
    willy

24" barrel is standard length for the model. Why do you think it was made late in 1894? I have been told more than once these single shot in the favorite line were not serial numbered. I have one with half octagon barrel with an O 2xx number stamped on lower tang. All of the single shot "Favorites" I have that are numbered, only have a letter and 3 digits. My Favorite model 17 has no patent date either.
Relining the barrel is simple enough on these rifles. If you find another barrel that has a good shiny bore thats not shot out will most likely still be attached to a complete gun in really decent shape.
