The pistol came in today and I'm very impressed. Packed in a foam lined plastic case with owners manual and one stainless mag. More about that later. All I have heard about this pistol is true, except for a few things that I'll cover over the next couple of days.
After stripping the pistol and giving it a good cleaning, I can see the work that went into it. All parts are FITTED correctly with no flaws anywhere. I then reassembled with a light oiling using SBGO. The frame and slide are tightly fitted and moves smoothly.
What would I change ? Maybe replace the mainspring housing. I prefer an arched housing. And the grips. just because I can. The supplied grips are Phillipine Mahogany and nicely checkered in the double diamond pattern. And I'll probably wrap a strip of skate board tape across the front strap for a non skid grip.
I did fire the pistol today a total for 50 rounds with ZERO malfunctions. Nothing for group size as I was shooting at a 12" steel plate at fifty yards. I did have a couple of misses but the sight was set at the factory setting and not disturbed. I'll dial it in later. All I wanted to do was get some break in time and check for function.
I'll post a couple of pictures and write more later.
i will try to post pictures tonight, 1st shot i have to say i was nervous after that i did ok after watching the video's i was practicing on the trigger pull never pulled trigger like that i need practise but love the spartan and it fits nice
Late congrats on your new piece, Beth! The virus has struck again and it can't be stopped! Won't be long and that 9 will be second nature. Muhahaha....
I fired another 500 rounds with the STI last week and the SBGO is still doing it's job. I still haven't cleaned the pistol but I did run a bore snake thru the barrel. The more I shoot this pistol, the more I like it. Excellent 1911 for not a lot of money. I have had no problems of any kind with the Spartan since the day it came in.
STI has this one right.
Picked up a Spartan 9 today. Took it home cleaned and oiled it then went back to the range. 150 rounds with a hiccup. Time to order some mags from Brownell's now. Question, will the 10 round Metalform (620-000-013) work or do I need to order the 9 round (620-009-082).
Well, you can add me to the list of 1911 owners...almost. I will pick it up tomorrow. I selected the STI Spartan 9mm thanks to the excellent reviews and input of the folks on this site.
Also, I'm proud to say I ordered mine from Double D, who was top notch all the way through! Not only did he give me an excellent price, he pre-ordered the gun because he knew his distributor would be sold out in no time! He had the Spartan packed and ready to go, and shipped it out once he received my payment. Can't ask for better customer service. Thanks again Dan.
My local gun shop received it this morning, will inventory it this evening, and will be handing it over to me tomorrow morning. I'll post some pics and a review once I've had the chance to hit the range. Might have to wait until after the New Year, as I'll be working all weekend.
what difference are you asking about Beth?
is it the bumper on the bottom?
if it's the bumper then it's personal preference the bumper helps seat the magazine easier with the palm of your hand while the flat bottom is easier to conceal.
almost everyone who shoots 1911's has their go-to magazines... everyone here recommends metalform mags I have 1 metalform mag it's made by them for Colt it shoots fine I would not hesitate to buy more I have another mag that has no markings that is my go to mag It never has let me down I have an old pachmaer mag that works great and I have a couple 8 round "act" mags that came with my Taurus they work well with 7 rounds but if you put 8 in them they nose dive the first round I would not buy more of the act mags http://www.midwayusa.com/product/261449/metalform-magazine-1911-government-commander-9mm-luger-9-round-steel-blue-flat-follower-removable-base
I prefer flat followers and flat bottoms. Although i do have a couple bumper mags that I keep loaded for SD. But the weapon is always loaded with an 8 round flat bottom mag.
Yea, I like bumpers too Beth. Take a look at "Chip McCormick" mags as well. I use several different brands and prefer stainless over blue. As far as the Metalform, they make alot of OEM mags and as the guy's say, work pretty well! CDNN has sells on them and other mags every weekend.
