Available from USFA soon, a Super .38. Once again, digging into the bottomless depths of my ignorance, how does this compare to the .38, 9mm, 38 special, and so on? Just curious.

    Ballistically I don't know.

I just know I can't afford a quality 38 Super right now. But I Wants one!

Bit more powerful than the 9mm. Might compare it to the .38 special. Really a nice ballistic load. I own 9mm Bergman/ Bayard and 9largo pistols. I like shooting the "9magnum"; it really is more fun that a 9mm and makes a .45 feel a bit clunky in comparison.

Just don't stick 38 Super in them old Largo pistols. A steady diet might make'em go boom. 9mm Largo is loaded at lower pressures than the the 38 altho they share the same physical dimensions. 9x23 mm

I don't. I use 9 large and leave it at that for those. I have had a .38 Supper in the past and it is a bit hotter for sure. The Astra I have might "maybe" handle super 38; but, as you say the boom may come sooner than expected.

I just went to USFA's site. I can't afford this one either. Starts at $1,995.00. The high polish bluing on the one in the picture is another $250.00. I quit looking after I saw that.

Berto, I bet they could put one of those Custer Indian finishes on it, and make it look old! You're right, though, they (USFA) ain't cheap. I am waiting for a SAA with a 7 1/2 bbl with stag (+ $450.00  ) grips in the regular finish. I think of it as my marshall Dillon special! Should be here soon - I wish I could afford a camera to post pics to show it to everyone!

I'd love to order one with engraving, similar to the gun John Wayne used in his last film, but don't think I'll ever be able to justify that kind of money for another investment again.

Never stray from you dreams, however ....

find you a good used 9mm 1911 and have a 38 super barrel fitted to it, barrel with bushing under $200.00 and then you have the ability for 2 calibers on the same frame. i have one of the older llamas in 9 largo that came with an extra slide and an aftermarket 38 super barrel and i have a lot of fun with it. total investment was under $700.00

Right, Bruce - no loaded chamber indicator! Damn shame. I would love to leave this state, and will, if opportunity comes my way.
