    First off, welcome to TFF.

The Hornady Superformance Ammo line is just that, a line of loaded ammo. To my knowledge they don't reveal the powders they are using for their loads. Hornady itself doesn't sell their own line of powders nor any other's.

And to add to that: Some of the powders they're using may not even be available to the public.

The powder hornady uses in their superformance line isnt offered to the reloading public. its a proprietary blend of powders that yields a specific burn rate and pressure curve, thats why hornady can develop above average velocities with certain bullet weights.

maybe some day they will let us have it like they finally did the the FTX bullets, but dont hold your breath, right now its a huge marketing advantage for them...

I think he is asking about Hdgdon's new powder called "Superformance".

I have read a few articles and comments on this new powder from Hodgdon, but that's about it. Haven't seen it or tried it. It's been reported by some on the web that Hornady is not happy with Hodgdon about the "Superformance" name as it is NOT what Hornady uses in their Superformance ammo, duno, only a call to Hornady could confirm or deny this one.

Anyway, here is data if you like.

    Thread drift.

I have found differences between superformance ammo vs. the light mag ammo.

    1. superformance ammo is not compressed in the case so it makes sense that this powder or a similar one is avaliable to the public.

    2. superformance ammo is not as clean as the light mag loads were.

    3. superformance gives up a bit of velocity vs the light mags.

With superformance powder avaliable now to reloaders there is no advantage Hornady has vs the home reloader. I hope hornady decides to produce the light mag ammo again. IMO the light mag ammo was better than the superformance. Especially if you were shooting rifles with long bbls.

I was thinking that LEVEREVOLUTION might be good in the .223 Rem.

First off, I'm rally new to re-loading and have a question regarding the 30 cal reload. I have come upon a large amount of Thunderbird 2208 and was wondering if it was a good idea to use it and if so is it worth anything on the market? I know they dont make it anymore.

After digging into this a little further, I have found that Hornady, in conjuction with Hodgdon powder co, has only release 1 of the proprietary formulas that make up the superformance line (there are supposedly over 20) it is only good to use with certain bullet weights in certain cartrdges and will not provide any gain if used outside of the data assigned to it.

It really makes me wanna kick Mr Hornady in the nuts:mad:
