Is anyone of you taking this swine flu thing serious? Is it being blown out of proportion? I was at the birmingham gun show last month and some guys there were treating it like the plague............very serious. Should I store up food and water?

Haven't heard much about it here. Welcome to TFF. The site is filling up with Cajuns. Just retired from S. La. 2+ years ago. It's like I haven't moved except for the weather, grocery stores, restaurants and bejunes.

I don't worry about it. I do store stuff just in case. Lots 'o wood, propane, canned food, water purification, that kind of stuff. My goal is to be self sufficient for a year give or take. Especially with heat and fuel.
  10. You never know when a good stockpile will come in handy. Last year's hurricanes knocked power out here in Arkansas for two weeks each. A month without power, even split between two storms, will test anyone's stockpile. Most recently the stockpile came in handy while I was drawing unemployment. It made up the gap in the budget now it is time to restock.

Here's the thing about plagues and epidemics. They are usually easy to control, and there usually doesn't seem to be a real good reason for their spread... and last but not least the brunt of the damage is done before we really understand them.

It may be getting blown out of proportion... but look at AIDS, all you gotta do is put on a condom and look at how much damage it has done (and its slightly harder to get than a flu!)

I'm not doctor, but I am a student of history.

    Just saying.
