A 40 grain projectile at 400+ fps shot into the 9-ring is still very lethal.

Kel-Tec P-32. I regularly carry this in my RF pocket in a small pocket holster with Speer Gold Dot HPs. I am like several of you, I technically can't carry a weapon at work although I always do. When you go into parts of town that I have to sometimes, only an idiot would go unarmed. Since the Kel-Tec is so small and looks like anything but a pistol while in its holster, it is the largest caliber option I have in this situation. It may be small, but it will be there when needed.

I had a partner once who carried a tiny .22lr two shot derringer as a back up.

His firearms his knowledge was, and is still second to none so there must be something in it.

You could move up to Keltec's P3-AT, the .380, which is in the same package as the P32, but with a bit more power. :D
