    Facts about TEXAS:

    Beaumont to El Paso: 742 miles
    Beaumont to Chicago: 770 miles

    World's first rodeo was in Pecos, TX: July 4, 1883

    The Flagship Hotel in Galveston, TX is the only hotel in North America
    built over water

    The Heisman Trophy was named after John William Heisman, who was the
    first full time coach for Rice University, Houston .

    Brazoria County has more species of birds than any other area in
    North America

    Aransas Wildlife Refuge is the winter home of North America's only
    remaining flock of whooping cranes

    Jalapeno jelly originated in Lake Jackson, TX in 1978

    The worst natural disaster in U.S. history was in 1900 caused by a
    hurricane in which over 8000 lives were lost on Galveston Island, TX

    The first word spoken from the moon, July 20, 1969, was "Houston" the
    Eagle has landed

    El Paso, TX is closer to California than to Dallas, TX

    Laredo, TX is the world's largest inland port

    Texas is the only state to enter the U.S. by TREATY, instead of by
    annexation (This allows the Texas flag to fly at the same height as
    the US flag.)

    A Live Oak tree near Fulton, TX is estimated to be 1500 years old

    Caddo Lake is the only natural lake in the state and we have a lotta lakes!

    Dr Pepper was invented in Waco, TX in 1885. There is no period after Dr
    in Dr Pepper

    Texas has had six capital cities:
    1. Washington-on-the-Brazos
    2. Harrisburg
    3. Galveston
    4. Velasco
    5. West Columbia
    6. Austin

    The Capitol Dome in Austin, TX is the only dome in the U.S. which is
    taller than the Capitol Building in Washington D.C.( by 7 feet)

    The name Texas comes from the Hasini Indian word "tejas" meaning
    friends. Tejas is not Mexican for Texas .

    The State animal is the Armadillo. An interesting bit of trivia
    about the armadillo is they always have four babies!
    They have one egg which splits into four and they either have four
    males or four females. Well... I thought it was interesting anyway!

    The first domed stadium in the U.S. was the Astrodome in Houston

    thought Dr Pepper was invented in Dublin, Tx? it's known as Dr Pepper, Tx and when you go thu, there are signs everywhere stateing it's the birth place of Dr Pepper.

    went and did some research. Dr Pepper was invented in Waco, Tx.. But a Buss. man from Dublin, Tx wanted to bottle it in his bottling plant. So Waco the birth place, Dublin the bottling birth place. the year was 1885 :D

    I don't know if its true, but it would'nt surprise me one bit.

    The entry into the Union by treaty rather than annexation is fascinating, especially about the part where the flag can be flown at the same height as the U.S flag, Kinda of like equals in the sense of two nations in an alliance rather than subordination. Totally fascinating.!!!

    Since the Republic of Texas pre existed it's conjunction with the United States, the flags flying at equivalent levels makes sense, to me.
    Much like a medical transplant case, the MAJOR issue is the organ rejecting the recipient organism; in this case, the USA.
    If GW don't shape up, the issue of secession may!

    Here's some more for ya

    General Sam Houston was the first President of Texas. Texas is the only sate that was a country first. But I guess Rick pointed that out already. think I need more sleep. I seem to be over lokking things and rambling ....on.... like that blue fish ........ in that disney movie.......... NEMO...... what were we talking about again?
