In response to the Phoenix event, the Honerable Sen. C. Schumer, D-NY- has recently introduced the "Fix Gun Checks Act" as the new "common sense" gun legislation:

    http://dailycaller.com/2011/03/23/n...cted-of-drug-crimes-from-possessing-firearms/

Note Sen. Schumer's legislation would disenfranchise anyone accused of a violation ! No trial, no adjudication, no relief for the innocent, no way to for them to appeal/rectify the disenfranchisement........Yes the proposed time frame is five years......But a stroke of the pen could make it lifetime !

We're saddled with a President with distinctly socialist/dictatorial leanings. A President that's supported racism, supported contravention of established law, and encouraged the demunition of states' rights/powers in public statements in support of illegal union activities ! Now he's proposed the nomination of Mr. Travers to head BATFE, when the nominee has little to no support within his organization. An organization teetering upon the brink of total collapse as more implicatory evidence emerges BATFE is the prime source of Mexican Drug Cartel arms that can bew traced back to the U..S. !! IOW an agency of our fedral government is not only contributing to a major crime problem in a bordering nation, but is using that conflict to further an "anti-gun" agenda across America !! >MW

Perhaps Mr Schumer should introduce Fix Bus Driver Backround Check, since there seems to be a high rate of Bus deaths in NY lately. This guy is tool and a poster child for Term Limits.

Past history has the honorable senator willing to "misrepresent" a lot of facts to get bandwidth........Firearms are only one aspect of his ambition.......IOW they're merely a convenient pony to ride - until it founders - then he'll change ponys with nary a regret for those that served him........

IOW the Honorable Senator from NY is tlhe epitome of a crass, self-serving politician with no ethose, ethic, or even a conscience....... >MW

I just finished reading that rotten bill...S 426...on line. It will largely require that all gun sales, even between friends, family, etc. be subject to the NICS oversight.
Another worrisome part is the requirement that states submit all of the information gathered under 426 and if they fail to do so there is a formula for witholding federal monies from the states.
I wish Schumer would smell the roses and understand that Americans are worn out with the incessant whining about guns. Obviously he's crooked enough to ever lose his seat in the senate, but he is an embarrassment to the nation.
Oh, well. Look at the greatest emabrrassment. Obama.

I can think of many that should have been in AZ that day instead of Giffords. This gimp is but one of them...

He is a rat's best friend. And Pelosi, Reid, Boxer, Feinstein are there, to name a few.

We have got to stand up and challenge idiots like this or we will all be in trouble. Its hard to fight against the left becouse they control most of the media in this country. Their biggest weapon is demeaning us on all their news outlets. We just have to keep fighting and hope the people see the progressive movement for what it is. Which in my opinion is a movement to destroy the United States of America.

Wow Schumer is an idiot. How is that fair to disenfranchise anybody who is accused? Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

I don't even believe in government requiring background checks. Honestly, it should be at the discretion of the seller of said gun. If they want to run one, let them. Because it violates the Second Amendment as an infringement upon the right to keep and bear arms. Therefore the government can't do them. But a private business can.

I think it all goes back to these idiots wanting someone else to look out for them. The "give me" mentality. Whereas people like us pull ourselves up by our bootstraps and take responsibility for our own safety and take responsibilty for our own lives.

I'm so sick of them curtailing my rights just simply because they are paranoid and don't feel safe. I don't feel safe. That's why I purchased a gun and am trying to learn to be proficient with it.

They'll never pass term limits. It's just politics. Corruption runs deep, even in the United States of America.

Thats true but we can fight them kicking and screaming and just maybe we will keep a few of them honest. We have to at least try, its our country, not theirs.

So long as our only recourse remains writing emails, sending letters, and attempting to vote them out, then nothing will ever change. You can "kick and scream" all you want, but it will fall on deaf ears. People today are too small minded, selfish, and generally ignorant of the political process and ramifications thereof, to do anything at all. So long as their children aren't being asked to fight in a foreign land, they have a job with meager pay, a car to drive around in, and they get a tax refund check every year, then they could care less. It's going to take drastic measures to bring about real change. You know it. I know it. And they know it. Heck, the whole world knows it! The only people that don't seem to get it are the lazy riff-raff that make up the majority of our population. Thomas Jefferson was dead on when he wrote of the "Tree of Liberty."

Remember: Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Madison, Franklin, et. al. were all looked at in much the same way (by the hierarchy in England) that Ron and Rand Paul, Palin, Beck, and many others are looked at today. There are parallels that can be drawn between events like Waco and Ruby Ridge and events that occurred throughout the colonies prior to 1775. This thing may well be under way already and we don't even recognize the signs. All I am saying is that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. I am just sad that it looks like the bad guys will win this time without ever having to fire a shot (previous examples of innocent people being killed by their government notwithstanding)...

And lets not forget that George had only a small support from the colonists during his battles. Some were for "fighting for freedom", some were for the crown, and most could care less. There is a lesson there.

When laws get too goofy & outta whack, the people ignore them; at least that's how it is in Alaska. Now there is a different mindset here than many places back east; but it isn't that much different than most small town community values across the USA. Many federal laws & mandates have been ignored by the state of Alaska for many years. Many more are ignored on the local level. Just try and get the people to do what they are told when they don't see it that way; leads to problems the govt doesn't want to face. People might figure out the power does reside in their own hands; govts can't let that occur now can they?

Gun control only helps the Republicans get elected.

People themselves control what they spend and how much money it takes to live. The pendulum swings back and forth, not much has really changed for me. Not how much you make that matters; it's how much that you spend that counts.

Think about how upset we all were around 93-94? Once the slickster was gone, it all settled down once again, didn't it? Same thing will happen to Big "O". Even if the greenback collapses, everybody else will be dealing with it too. You decide how prepared you are for possible problems. I just hope that I live long enough to see my kids having kids and another Reagen in power.

I think the last election proved that something can be done to keep the dishonest politicians in check. Even if its just one or two every couple years that gets replaced with an honest politician we are doing something good. Im not sure what else we can do but I know im not ready to give up on America just yet.
