The Hurt Locker

  1. Anyone else seen this movie? I saw it yesterday and thought it was pretty good. I believe it's up for a best picture Oscar, but yet I didn't notice any real overt anti-war/anti-military bias in it beyond a couple of scenes involving a Colonel and the fact that some of the songs on the soundtrack are from a band who was openly anti-Bush and anti-war.

I thought it was pretty good. Like you say, no overt bias.
I did think that it was unrealistic in that somebody with his attitude & actions woulda been s***caned and not entrusted with that job. My $0.02

That being said, I realize it's the movie plot & Hollywood. The chick that directed it did do a awesome job. I hope that she picks up a Oscar.

Some of the stuff was just plain unrealistic and rambo-ish. Some things about the storyline, like going into a city alone, accidently coming up to SAS operators. Dont know what they were trying to imply with wiping off the 50 cal bullets.
Overall the idea for the film and the effects were awesome

Whether it's pro or anti war or whatever I could care less about today. Iraq has been stabilized, in most parts of the country there's less crime than you would see in LA.
  7. Yeah, I kind of rolled my eyes on the whole "wipe the blood off the mag" part. I was also wondering why the enemy sniper was just sitting around doing nothing while the guys on the Barret were sitting on the ridge waiting to get the ammo wiped off. I did like the fact that the enemy sniper was using a Romanian PSL rifle, as a lot of them do. There were a few other inaccuracies in the movie (wearing the new digi camo uniforms in 2004, the scopes and aimpoint red dots were all missing crosshairs or dots, etc.), but not really too many more than most other movies of the type.

I had forgotten all about the blood on the .50 rounds.

You can pick any movie apart if you wish.I can say I really enjoyed the movie even with the fact it was not what I was thinking it was going to be about.Thinking more Rambo-ish.

It wasn't too bad a flick. it was a little slow in some areas but I enjoyed the sniper scene in the desert and the special effects (explosions) were better than I expected.
