I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of used stocks for sale in the States. I require a stock for a Winchester 1885 Low Wall and for a Remington Model 4 and have had no luck to date. Any advise of where to search would be much appreciated.
Much appreciated guys. I had looked through the Numrich stuff before. But I am really chasing second hand to keep in with the age and look of the rifle. The Winchester stock has been pinned and repaired with some type of grey plastic or epoxy and doesn't look good at all. The Remington has been sanded back so far it doesn't fit the tang or butt plate anymore.
I thought there might be somewhere that deals in second hand parts.
A used original stock in decent shape for your rifle are about as common as chicken lips. If it were me, I'd just 'bite the bullet' and get a new walnut stock for it. Maybe a phone call to Boyd's Gunstocks in Missouri? Boyd's - like most companies these days - have gone "computer", so a phone call to a real person might be the way to go. You might just luck out and get someone who will get off their duft and see if they either have one or can make it for you with one of those fancy computer CNC machines.
Another option is to search the web for sites that specialize in Black Powder Shooting competition. Sometimes those sites will offer 'sale or trade' forums. Dicey, but may be an option.
Oooops - just noticed you are in Australia. That does complicate things. A call to Boyd's might still be in order, or maybe someone there might be able to craft a stock for you. Everyone I've met from Australia so far have been really nice, down-to-earth people. You guys must have jerks like we have here - I've just not met them yet. Welcome to TFF and keep us posted!
Very nice comments there Jim. Yeah I understand not easy to find that's why I'm trying all of these avenues. They are just sitting in the safe and not going anywhere as I am more of a collector than hunter so I will just keep being patient. I imagined that the volume of these rifles would be much greater in the States than in OZ so that's why I am trying over there. I did see one on eBay but the seller said they would not send overseas for some reason.
Just out of curiosity, I looked at Boyds and they do have stocks for the Remington but of course they are not original stocks.
As for people not wanting to send stuff overseas, there are a lot of idiots that won't send stuff to my daughter in Hawaii, and of course it is a state!!
Dixie Gun Works used to carry replacement wood for the Remington and Winchester single shots but it's been a decade or two since I've owned one of their current catalogues.
Thanks Grizzley I emailed Dixie to see what they have.
