Washington Blacktail

    Looks lonely in here so I thought I would share. This is my first deer from my first season hunting which was last year. I took this buck with my Marlin 30-30 using iron sites at approx. 45-50 yards.

    My first came with the help of my ole reliable Marlin .30-30 back in ancient times!

    Thanks for the compliments folks. A lot of my friends told me my 30-30 was too small, outdated, too old, etc. Or that I needed a scope. You should have seen the looks on their faces!

    I am going to take one with a bow this year. We will see if my luck holds. ;) :D

    Actually, a .30-30 is adequate for about 95% of the game taken here in the United States. I also got my first black bear with the same rifle. In fact, I didn't own anything larger until I was over fifty years old.

    I never looked into a scope until about five years ago and I'm still not sure that I'm comfortable shooting with one. I still like the ole favorite, open iron sights.

    Nice lookin' buck...What it weigh...Was it tasty???


    30-30 works great out to 100 yards or so on deer sized game.

    Good shot placement is always much better than more power.

    Whar bouts did you shoot em.?
    I know all Washington Blacktail deer are found west of the Cascade mountians.

    I should check back more often, sorry guys. It sure was a tasty fella and weighed around 270 after he was field dressed. He was more like a horse then a deer. :D

    I shot him in the Granite Falls area.
