"Gun ownership is a right that comes with citizenship. Aliens legal or not, have no business with firearms. Just my opinion but it's not open for debate, at least with me."

That's some strong gun control opinions right there. Even my leftie state governor is going to let me get a gun once I get the time to go sort things out. :)

    A few questions for you.

Have you served in the armed forces of the United States? Are you sworn to protect and defend the constitution of the United States of America? Are you prepared to take up arms to do so?

The constitution acknowledges and guarantees the God given right to self defense and the means to resist tyranny for American citizens. It is the hope that all nations might enjoy these rights but it is not within it's purview to guarantee these rights for other than U.S. citizens as the document was the instrument that established this nation and no other.

Common sense is required here. Who in their right mind would grant permission to own and/or bear arms to for example an Arab national residing in the U.S. in these times? Apparently it has been done, but it makes no sense.

I would suggest you sort out citizenship before you sort out firearms ownership.

Just out of curiosity, from what country do you come?

    What's 'strong' about it?
When does an alien get the same rights as a citizen?
Name ONE other country in the world that would agree to this.

As far as your 'leftie' governor is concerned; she's one of many that have turned MY state into a wasteland.

No, I thought about it, but you have to be a USC to get a commission. I tried being a grunt before. Blindly following orders without thinking doesn't suit me. I'm not sworn to protect the constitution. In terms of taking up arms, that would highly depend.

I come from Canada. Apparently, some gun control lobbies disagree with your view as they helped bring about the lawsuit that let legal aliens have access to guns.

What's strong? Most people on this site would say any regulations around gun ownership are too many regulations. I just thought I'd point out that he was advocating a gun control ideology.

An alien doesn't get the same rights as a citizen. I'm confused by your question. One other country that would do this? Off the top of my head, Canada will let residents get a PAL.

Oh you live where my garbage goes? :)

    That's the thing.
I don't consider the fact that you live here the same as being a citizen.
If you haven't bothered to take the time to become a citizen, why should you be afforded all the rights/benefits a citizen does?

I've no idea what a PAL is, but if it's Canadian and has to do w/firearms, I'm pretty sure I want no part of it.

My family has lived here for over 100 years.
I was born here over 50 years ago, so I think I have the right to comment on the history of the state. I would doubt that 10% of our states population can make that claim. It truly was paradise at one time.

    But things change eh?

    Thanks for the garbage though.

Bobitis, where exactly did I say that an immigrant should have the same rights as a citizen? Please, show me. You're the one bringing this up, not me. I didn't mention equal rights for a work permit holder in my original post, so please enlighten me as to where you're getting this. As I said in my last post, "An alien doesn't get the same rights as a citizen. I'm confused by your question". Please englighten me.

I am taking the time to become a citizen. For a LEGAL immigrant who is extremely smart and well educated, it takes a lot of time. I can't just hop the border and wait for the *insert political party here* to give amnesty.

I don't think this discussion was ever about me getting equal rights of a citizen. You somehow have locked onto that idea. I'm not sure why.

It's the gun permit you can get in Canada as an alien. It's the answer to the question you posed. It repudiates your argument, so it's rather convenient for you to ignore it.

Perhaps you can expand upon this as I have no idea of what you're talking about or where you live. You noted it was my governor and thus implied it was not yours and as such I'm assuming you live in Oregon. I have no idea of what you mean by the paradise it once was.

In the case where you do live in Oregon (where most of WA sends it's garbage), your state chose to do this and gets paid well for it, so you're welcome. :)
