I'm posting this in the .22 forum because thats what i just bought, but the question is open for all guns. What do you guys look for in a trigger? What makes a trigger good, and by the same token, what makes a trigger bad?

Well, since this is in the .22 forum....I`ll just answer that, because big bore; some folks set up different for safety.

I like a light trigger on a .22 and set them accordingly.
    Target....under 1/2 lb.....prefer 4-6 ozs. No creap, stacking,cant or overtravel; it should break clean.....snap!

Hunting rig in .22, like 2lbs or just a hair under with the same features.

In a factory gun you will rarely find any of these features and an eight pound trigger is light.

I also prefer a wide trigger shoe....this displaces the weight over more of the trigger for a controlled let off, as more of the finger pad is in contact. LTS

I have read on this board that the 10/22 factory trigger is crap, what should i look for if i want to replace it? Should this be something i look to replace right off the bat or are other things more important?

Other things are more important.Just deburr and carefully polish the parts in the trigger group for now.

for example, the Power Custom titanium trigger is larger, lower contour for better control and less pressure, smooth rounded trigger face and a overtravel stop screw.
It makes for a nice trigger.

    another 2cents worth

"Power Custom Titanium" trigger for 22....
How would you go about securing such an item
and to make sure it works on your model of 22? etc. etc.
