Growing up in south GA.,bird hunting was king (bobwhites and doves).I had a.410 first at age 6.My first .22 the next christmas was a marlin/glenfield semi-auto.It looked like a .30 cal m1carbine,but i can't recall the model#.It was new, made in 1966.
My first 22 is a High Standard Trophy. I love its adjustable 2 stage trigger. I bought it at age 22 at the Marine Corp exchange at MCRD in San Diego. I was in the Navy stationed on the USS Ranger CV-61 at North Island and the Navy exchanges didn't carry guns.
My father had a Mossberg 44US with both the original peeps and a Weaver K4, that I inherited on his passing (I was just a youngster when he died.) It was as heavy as a deer rifle, but to a teen age boy who was a complete gun nut, and wanted to "bond" with his memories of his dad, it was FANTASTIC. Also, the thing was a tack driver (if you could get used to the not exactly wonderful trigger) and accounted for a vast number of squirrels in the PA woods. Passed it on to my younger brother when I was able to afford another .22 bolt, and so that he could have some of the same experiences with "Dad's gun."
My first 22 I woned was a M&P 15-22. I know it isn't as classic as some of the others listed. But I love it. My 9 Year old son loves it too. Hopefully, one day he will post on a forum somewhere about having fond memories with poppa shooting the little black gun that could
Ruger Mark II Target 6 7/8 in barrel stainless steel ,still have it. Probably have about 10,000 rounds through it. Its been back to the ruger factoy 2 times at no cost to me, one of the most accurate guns I have ever owned.Bought it at a pawn shop over 20 years ago think I paid $175 or $200.
My Grandpa gave me my first .22 It was a Wards WesternField pump with a tubular mag. It shoots short, long or long rifle. I stll have it. I took it out and fixed the breech on it a couple of yrs ago. I quit shooting it because there was movement in the breech. Didn't know what I was doing but it went back together and works! So it is back in the safe, not worth much but will never be sold.
Remington Nylon 66. I beleive it was called Apache Black. Chromed receiver and barrel. Has a Bushnell .22 varmint scope. Bought it about 40 years ago. It 's been a great little rifle.
For me a full stock Mossberg 151M, the first series with a brass magazine tube. It is/was capable of hitting 12 gauage shot shells at 75 yards with ammo it liked. Still have it in the safe.
Summer 1958-Mossberg 346B-$28. My HS graduation gift to myself.
Still have and shoot it. Has shot a bunch of squirrels. Next one was 45 yrs later-a CMP 40x. There were a couple of 22 handguns in the interim.
But, if we are talking about purchased guns then two months ago I bought an ithaca m49 and a marlin 60w
