Pirogues are little stuffed dumplings. When I was young, and just married, we didn't have much either, for us it was rice, and gravy. However, I didn't get burnt out on it. I still love rice, and gravy, and have it sometimes. The diabetes won't let me eat a lot of rice, or gravy, any more. Had a good friend from Kokomo Indiana, could not stand the thought of gravy on rice! To him it was like putting gravy on Cheerios. We had chicken, and cheese enchiladas for dinner.
If a person likes chicken hearts, livers, chicken pieces, whatever..they're great w/rice and gravy. In fact, it's been a while. Gonna pass it on to the bride.
Tonight we will be having hot roast beef, and swiss, panini's with Stone Wave onions. If you haven't tried these little microwave cookers, you should! No pictures, I haven't cooked it yet!
Tonight we'll be having pork chops smothered in onions and gravy, over rice, with fire roasted whole kernel corn, and sweet peas, with biscuits. Not my picture.
Going out of town for a couple of days and wanted to clean out the veggie drawer. The wife won't cook while I'm gone, so I didn't want them to go to waste. Red pepper, onion, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini and boiled potatoes cooked with some Hillshire Turkey Sausage.

Rice and gravy was not on my radar until I ate at restaurant run by Kings Hawaiian Bakery. Most Hawaiian restaurants serve a dish called Loco Moco that's just as popular for breakfast as it is lunch or dinner. It's rice with 2 hamburger patties and 2 eggs covered in gravy. It ain't much to look at but it's great for a hangover or just when you're really hungry.

I wish I had some of the past week's grub you guys posted. I was in Punta Cana last week eating poor imitations of global cuisines. A full week in an all inclusive resort and I didn't put on any weight at all. Just shows how mediocre it all was.
Anywhoo...got in Saturday night and spent Sunday making bread, sandwich thins, spaghetti sauce and a a pot roast. had the 'sghetti Sunday and the pot roast last night. Tonight will be pot roast again with rice & steamed mixed veggies. Good to be back to home cooking.
Smoked chicken thighs, roasted cauliflower and garlic mashed potatoes.
