So I own a couple rifles now, a 12 guage duck gun, and my taurus pt140 mil pro. I love that gun. I am not really a carry kind of guy. I love in Idaho. Not a lot of need for carry out here and I don't wanna register my name with the gov. But I have been looking at getting another pistol. I have looked into some of the cheaper (Rock Island mainly) 1911's. All 1911's are hugely worshiped. I want to know what is so great about them. I fired one and it didn't seem any better than a friends S&W .45. The S&W just carried more rounds. Please tell me.

Aah, the 1911, fabled in song and legend. It is the preferred pistol of manly men in both real life and onscreen. It is a timeless (well, 100 years) design, used 'round the world in countless conflicts to send countless bad guys to meet their maker. It's the premier stopper of those seeking to do harm, without packing so much recoil that it sends you reeling.

"9mms get dug out of bodies. .45 ACPs get dug out of walls on the other side."

I just like the way it shoots. :D

Wow! Very wordy there Hogger. If the guy shot one and cant see and feel the difference between a 1911 and some other .45 then no amount of words will convey what we 1911 guys know already. JMHO.

For many of us, the venerable 1911 is the most natural pointing, easiest to shoot well pistol ever built. I have lots of pistols, but when I want to hit the mark every time consistently - I grab a 1911...

I have several pistols and I like them all. However my 1911 is hands down the best shooter in the bunch. Best point, easiest shooting, and ridiculously accurate.

The 1911 is a classic design that is was designed as a no frills, rough and tumble, git-r-done pistol. These days the frills have been added and the accuracy has improved. It takes down very simply and functions very well. Its following is due to the history and use of the gun in the past as well as the customization factor. It's just an easy gun to use and clean is the reason I like it. I dont want a gun that you have to have a degree to take apart. There's nothing better in a .45 in my opinion.

I love 1911s. Other .45s are OK too. But IMO, there are 3 types of handguns, and here they are listed in order from best to worst...

Category #1 is the 1911, best of the best of the best SIR!

Category #2 is good guns that shoot well and handle well.

Category #3 is crap i wont own because it isnt worth the plaztik its made of IMO...

Everyone should be required to own a 1911! ha ha ha (Wonder if we could get Obozo to pass THAT law!!) Even the PlastiPistolKids should be required to own one, so that they know what they have been missing!!

A word of caution. Your first 1911 will be the gateway 1911. After that the addiction starts and before you know it you'll have a 1911 safe and an everything else safe.

    I speak from experience!

Glock is not a bad sidearm at all. I believe in diversity.

I wouldnt mind having one myslef..... Glocks make good door stops. And if you get mud on them, just throw them in the dishwasher.
