Does anyone know where I can find load data for the 5.56 nato? I have just been loading my .223's but my rifle can shoot the hotter 5.56 round and I would like to load them myself if at all possible. I have a Lyman manual and it mentions nothing about it. I have looked and the major powder mfg.'s sites and they have nothing for 556 as well. I see that they make brass for the 556 but cannot find the data.

Hornady & Sierra list there data under .223 Service Rifle if you call either one they will send you a PDF or page scan of the data via email of the load data they have.

5.56 brass is identical to 223 brass, same same. Most load data for service rifles is nothing more than 223 data with heavy bullets, 69gr and above with 1-7 to 1-9 twist, still running at 223 pressures of 55K psi.

Email Johan at Ramshot/Accurate and ask him for load data running at 5.56 pressures. You should include your choice of bullets.

Yup, thanks Josh, Hornady data for service rifles is simple 223 (55K psi) data with heavy bullets. Not the 5.56 (62K psi) data you are looking for.

Yup. I personally find very little difference ballistically between the 55K .223 pressure and the 62K 5.56 pressure, and in my personal experience i get better shoting loads from .223 data..
