Sounds like a Model 1886 Winchester.

There are several different variations of that model, and you give no information as to condition. Valuation is anywhere from $650 to $6500.

I missed that part but yes its stamped MODEL 1886
She's in very fine shape all original with very few scratches along with some bluing loss. Bore is crystal clear with plenty of rifling.
What is the history on this style of firearm?
    THANKS

CB, on these types of rifles and in order to get a complete idea of value/history......you are going to have to be exact.

    Barrel length/magazine length= half/full
    Barrel Round/Hex.....split
    Sights
    Wood
    Buttplate

I mean a complete, in every way description.

That is why you see the 650-6,500 price range. Regards LTS

    THANKS so here goes...
    Barrel length= 26"
    Magazine length=full
    Barrel is octogon
Sights are brass front bead about 1/2" long and 1/2 moon rear that adjust both very sturdy and original
I do not know the wood but it has not been re-finished and is in great shape... few nicks, scratches but still very nice
Bluing is wore but still about 85% intact
And there is a but plate that wraps around the top of the stock about 2 1/2 "

That sounds like the standard rifle configuration, with no special order features. .40-65 WCF is one of the least desireable calibers in the 1886, but it still is highly collectable. Your rifle should ballpark at $1500 - $2000, but you should DEFINITELY get a hands-on appraisal from a reputable Winchester collector.
