Have a 1897 12ga that I was wondering about the value of.
Serial #6591XX. Would guess it was made in the 30s or 40s. Standard gun, not one of the rare variations. Good wood, about 40-50% original finish.
About what you would expect of a gun that age with a reasonable amount of use. It locks up tight and the bolt doesn`t rattle like a lot of the old 97s you see. So I would guess it was carried in the field a lot, but probably not shot all that much.

    Hello Shep,

The partial serial number you posted indicates that it is a 1902 vintage "C" series gun. If the slide handle wood is not cracked (and a lot of them are), in the condition you describe it is worth at least $500.

Somehow I screwed up writing the post, must have been looking at the wrong item on my serial # list.
The right serial # is 6591XX.
    Sorry about that.
