I would like to know the value of a Winchester model 70 XTR- DBM in .284 winchester made in 1993. It is new in the box. I also have a second one (exact same model and caliber) with a Leupold Vari-X II 3-9X scope mounted and exactly one box of ammo fired. It is like new. Winchester only made these detachable magazine rifles for one year, and I have been told that they only made between 100 and 200 in .284 caliber. Can anyone provide any more information on this and also the value? I believe if there are so few of them they should be worth more than the standard caliber model 70 DBMs. Also, any idea where it might be possible to buy extra magazines? I wish I would have asked Winchester (USRAC) for some in 1993 when I puchased the rifles. I have been unable to locate any. Thanks for your help.

    Hi mm.......welcome to TFF.

Yep......those are both pretty rare. Less than 200 manufactured.

Here are the Blue Book prices (in .284 Win.):

    Model 70 Classic DBM:

    100% - $695
    98% - $650
    95% - $550

These values are about $220 more than for the standard Model 70 DBM in the same condition......but only in the .284 caliber.

Classic DBMs and standard Model 70 DBMs in other calibers are worth about the same money.

I don't know how much the 'scope adds.

About the magazine......have you tried calling Winchester Parts & Service at 1-800-322-4626?

I checked the Gunpartscorp website.....lotsa parts for the DBM:
http://www.e-gunparts.com/products.asp?chrMasterModel=0950z70 POST 64 DETACHABLE BOX MAGAZINE&MC= But no magazine listed there.

Might worth giving them a call, though: http://www.e-gunparts.com/cantfind.asp

    Worth a try.....it can't hurt.

    Thanks

Xracer, Thanks for the information. It matches pretty well with the information I have. Does the "less than 200" come straight from Winchester? I understand they will not give out a more specific number. I tried your suggestions before for an extra magazine., but I guess it's worth trying again. I appreciate your taking time to give me some help. BTW there is a guy advertising the same gun in the newspaper for $1,400 NIB.

Nope......it came from the 23rd Edition of The Blue Book of Gun Values, on page 1523.

The "less than 200 mfg." applies only to the Model 70 Classic DBM in the .284 Winchester caliber.

The standard Model 70 DBM wasn't offered in .284.

Darn, now I have another book I gotta buy! Does it say in the Blue Book less than 200 model 70 DBM classics made? I wondered about the classic DBM because my serial number is way out of line with the regular numbering for model 70s made in 1993 - G60xxx instead of G2million. I wish Roger Rule could come out with a new edition of his Rifleman's Rifle book that would update things on model 70s. Plus it would also be great to know for each manufacturer the number of each caliber in each model that was manufactured. Any sources for this? I guess this would give us too much information - like who or what is going down the tubes or selling well. Thanks for your help.

"Does it say in the Blue Book less than 200 model 70 DBM classics made?"
