The ser. # says it was made in 1884. Cal. 44/40 with a 30" octagon barrel. From what I gather, not many 30" were made. Most blueing gone, some pitting, nice patina. Bore is clean but shows it's age. Action is smooth and tight. Wood is dark and scuffed but no cracks or splits. I think it was built for black powder shells but someone MAY have tried to use smokeless shell in it. When I got it, an old box of " Peters Rustless 44 winchester " came with it, these are smokeless powder shells.
The ejection port hood is missing. It's not for sale, it looks to good hanging over the fireplace. Value is for insurance only. But any info you could give would be very helpfull.

44/40 is the most common cal for the the 73.
I saw one at the gun show last week also 44/40.
No bluing left on it wood dark and dinged but not cracked.
    No missing parts. $1400

    Thanks 22,
I guess $1400 is in the ball park. I have seen mod. 73s at gun shows but not 30 in. The longest was 28 in. and it too was octogon.
Is that a "police positive target 22" in your logo picture? I have one myself.
