    First thing is "what kind?"

Winchester made single-shots, which should be worth, maybe, a hundred bucks.

They made 1897 pumps, which are all right. Model 12 pumps, which are great. Model 1200 pumps and 1300 autos, which are more modern guns, but not as good. I'm guessing, for that price, it's either a single shot with a severe case of "I'm really worth more than you think", or a 1200.

Are you sure you want to get into 16? It's fast becoming an orphan gauge. Ammo is hard to find and the selection is not as good as 12 or 20. Back in the olden days, 16s were built on their own frame size. They were slightly smaller and handier than 12s. Nowadays, though, the few you can find are built on 12 gauge frames, so they are not only larger than the older guns but they are heavier than new 12 gauges.

Not tryin' to talk you out of it. I got four 16s myself, and would like more. But shooting the oddballs is different.

You have got to REALLY love the 16 ga.---or be more than a little nuts
to get involved. Ammo is scarce and not cheap, you darned near have
to set up to reload if you want to shoot them much.

I'm actually voting for the "more than a little nuts" on 16 ga owners.

    Have 6 of them.:)

    Pre war Ithaca 37
    Post war Ithaca 37
#51 of the 500 gun re-introduction run of the Ithaca 37. Kind of
a neat one. 26" ventrib with choke tubes, corncob fore-end, sunburst
pad and a hand fitted action.
    Remington Sportsman 48
    Winchester 97
    Crescent hammer double

Still looking for a reasonable priced Marlin 90 or Browning Citori O/U
