Ive never used a tumbler when reloading...never seen any need...but I had some cabelas points to spend and cabelas had their Lyman 1200 pro tumber, so I picked it up for free just had to pay shipping....figured for that price id give a tumbler a try. decided to see how that goes. What do you all use for media? im leaning walnut but havent decided yet.
My comments come mostly from experience (I worked at a shop that used a couple commercial size wobbblers, for deburring and finishing machined parts) and a lot comes from my "tinkering/experimenting"
Thanks all for your help....got the tumber in yesterday, went down and bought some media...only had enough money for one thing so I decided to start with the crushed walnut and go from there. Ran some 270 and 223 brass through first (without depriming them-just wanted to see how they did) and now im running some .303 rounds through it (de-primed) and it seems to be doing the truck...only annoying part is im noticing the walnut likes to get stuck inside the primer holes of the .303. not a major issue...just slightly annoying, but theyre coming out nice and shiny.
Here's a trick that I do with bottle neck brass. After I dump it into the seperator, turn the cleaner back on and hold the brass lightly against the mouth edge with the case mouth facing into it for a couple of seconds. It will help get any media out of the case that may be wedged in there.
I like to tumble my brass before sizing/depriming. I get much less carbon/junk on my press than it I deprime prior to tumbling. Or I could use a "hand depriming" tool, but I get lazy and don't mind the sweet sound of 100, 30-06 cases tumbling around in a drum...
