picked up my new 20" round barrel .45colt today

Range day tomorrow- will file a report!

Initial reaction on this brand new rifle;

- got a good price ($650)
- good trigger-- my guess is a crisp 4lb
- action is smooth
- I love the Henry sights with gold front bead and white diamond at base of buckhorn rear right
- nice dark walnut stock like I prefer with blued rifles

LGS threw in an old rifle carrier made right here in Des Moines by Boyt... with leather barrel crown guard, leather strap and sheepskin (or similar) inside

Gave the Henry a workout today at 50 yds. shooting at a small steel target

Shot about 30 rds standing and about 30 rds using a rest while seated

I'm very pleased with accuracy, sights/adjustability, trigger (4lbs) and rifle weight (7lbs)

It comes up to my shoulder naturally and the pull length is just right for me

Shot some of my handloads- 200 gr LRNFP over 5.7gr of 700-x at 1.6" OAL

This gun is going to keep me busy at the reloading bench!

Lookin' good...good...and even better all the time.

Thanks for the report, and glad you like it.

My Marlin lever action is very satisfying to shoot, and like you say, keeps me busy at my reloading bench.

I was looking at a Marlin-45 colt lever gun a few days before you made this post at Sportsmans and studying them on you-tube.While I was there I picked up and looked at a few boxes of 45-colt ammo and one was $39.00 and another was $45.00.I'm sure reloading them the price comes way down to feed them. The videos I was watching seemed to have somewhat mild recoil also. They looked really fun to shoot. This is how I end up wanting and buying new guns.

Nice rifle, nice caliber. I opted for the Marlin, in .44 mag. I can shoot the .44 special in it also.

This question may already be shot to death but this is a more recent thread so my question:

Found out today Henry is building lever guns in 41Mag, and I am a 41Mag fan. Had my CC in hand, trying to decide if I go to LGS for immediate satisfaction or place an order. Did a quick search on several of my favorite sites for prices and discovered a rare Marllin 1894F (JM stamped) in 41Mag has popped up for sale. It is not close but I am willing to travel or pay shipping. Marlin cost a little more, but not made any longer and side gate load is just nostalgic in my mind. Suffice it to say, I would willingly pay the difference between the guns.

The Marlin could be a hoax ad, the Henry is available from multiple purveyors. Marlin is a 1980's build, the Henry is new, in box with papers and warranty. But 41Mag Marlins just don't show up very often.

Anyone willing to offer opinions to help me decide? Never shot a Marlin or a Henry. Only lever rifle I ever owned or shot was a Winchester 1894 chambered in 30/30 and to my knowledge, Winchester never built a 41. Feel free to correct my knowledge because I shoot left, a top eject would seal the deal.
