Hello everyone, my name is David. I am on disability so money is tight, I plan to do some traveling in a mini-motor-home, parking in all kinds of situations (parking lots/truck stops/out in the wilderness etc.) I am looking at the hi-point c9 for protection and could use some advise/help/info. If I buy one online, I have to pay shipping, FFL AND Application fee! So a used c9 may cost double just in fee's and shipping! I don't know how this stuff works, but my thought was a gun show would save me alot! However, what do I need to do legally to walk in, purchase one and walk out? I hope it will never need to be used, but I will have peace of mind in case. This firearm will not be a ccw and will stay inside the rv at all times. Thanks. P.S. No Felonies, No Record.

Even buying one in a Pawn Shop Unless you have a ccw permit it is unlikely that you would not have to wait for a background check to clear. At Gun Shows you still have to legally Fill out the form 4473 and do a background check. our best answers are going to come from the FFL you are planning to buy the pistol from,

Good Morning Dave from the Phoenix area, Glendale to be exact...there are so many little
communities tucked in and around that one doesn't know...I noted you just barely checked
in by the time...probably before you settle in for breakfast some one of these troops will
have a legitimate response to your inquiry...with such matters they will be well informed
and legal answers, probably suggestions of types and nomenclatures of the weapon
you are seeking...I continue to be amazed with the technical conversations carried on
when they speak of a certain type screw in this or that part of the gun...though I am a
retired military (naval construction) scarce what I was exposed to those long years ago remain firm and positive about guns...Welcome on board.. Chief

A Hi Point C9 sells new for about $150
why not go to Hi Point's webpage and find a dealer near you and walk inside and buy one?
All you should have to pay is the price of the gun and sales tax

Don't over think this.
This is good advice.

If you are in florida, and no CCW, there will be a wait period and 4473.

If you buy used, from a private seller, there will be nothing but money and gun chaning hands. In florida you can sell a gun privately to someone of your own state ( that isn't a felon, etc, etc. )-standard disclaimer applies.

if you have time to plan for the trip.. just get the gun locally do the wait, get the gun.. warranty, get some ammo, practice, etc. Be safe. HP's are economically cheap, big, ugly, and pretty much always go bang when you pull the trigger.

Welcome to TFF.
Some states have a back round check charge and some do not.
Buy your gun at a dealer and PRACTISE with the gun BEFORE you go on a trip. And you have to keep in mind that a pistol permit from your state may not be OK in other states (For now).
So you could get in trouble when you cross a state line with your pistol.
How much shooting have you done?.
Remember if you have no experience with hand guns YOU could be your worse enemy.

Hi point you either love them or hate them. Some swear they are dead nuts reliable others just swear at them. I believe they are a crap shoot, hey you might get lucky. Myself I'd put another $50 in the pot and get this.

Battle proven and trusted. Arguably one of the most reliable guns made. The 9x18 ammo is cheap. It is a gun that will function with cheap steel cased ammo. Practice with the cheap stuff and load her up with Critical Defense for serious business. A underestimated pistol that WILL NOT let you down when needed. Here is some ammo choices.

First, Welcome to TFF! I see that you live in FL, a very gun friendly state. You don't need a CCW permit. You will have to pass a background check. And that may take up to 10 days. As far as a safety class is concerned, check with your local Sherriff's office. Most offer a free safety course for beginners. Your problem will be crossing state lines, and some states don't allow firearms from other states. What I did years ago, was to contact all the states I wanted to travel to, or thru, and asked them. That included all State, and National Parks. I was told to carry on. Some states wanted the gun unloaded, and ammo stored separately, most didn't care. Today, I stay out of states that are not gun friendly, and they are easy to find on the internet. Have a safe trip, and keep us posted as to what you buy, and your experience with that gun.

In Oregon I have seen it take up to 30 days for BG Checks to come back. And then is you are not able to pick up the gun on that 30th day you have to redo the 4473 and pay another BG Fee (but it usually comes back with in an hour after that one. With a CCW you still have to pay the BG Fee but you walk out the store with the gun as soon as you pay for it. Here in WABG Checks usually come back within an hour or less, but with a CCW you pay for the gun and the BG Fee and walk out the store with the new gun right then.

I have a Hi-Point C-9 and a JCP 40 S&W. They both were dead on out of the box and I have never had to adjust the sights. They are very reliable once they are tuned. That is usually what most people who dislike them pick on. But it's simple, first load your mag(s) and let them sit for about a week, then check to see if the rounds feed from the mags, you may need to adjust the feed lips. You can find this and any other info on HP's on the Hi-Point Firearms Forum, google it and it will come up. Many knowledgeable people there and it's free. The thing most people like about HP's is the warranty. It is truly a unlimited lifetime warranty, even if the gun is broken due to misuse HP will fix or replace and send it back with a new magazine, the only thing you pay is shipping back to MOM. Even if you are the twentieth owner of that particular gun the warranty is the same. It isn't nearly the only brand I own, but I love my HP's.

These screwy laws can vary from state to state. Here in Colorado the Colorado Bureau of Investigation conducts the background check. I think there is a $25 fee for it, but not sure. If you buy from a dealer at a store or a gun show, you will be required to fill out the Federal paperwork - this seems to be universal regardless of what state you live in. Usually the background check is started at the time of your purchase as is the Federal Firearms Form.

If you plan to travel with your weapon - be sure to follow Carver's advice and plan/check ahead. A few years back a woman (I think from PA) traveled into MA (she had a PA Conceal Carry Permit) with her pistol in her purse on the back seat. She was stopped (for what ever traffic reason), and she informed the MA Police Officer that she had a Permit and that the pistol was in her purse. Long story short - there was another Officer (a hard a$$), and while the first Officer wanted to release her, "Sergeant Joe Friday" arrested her and threw her into the Pokey. It wasn't legal for her to have had that pistol in her purse in MA. They threw the book at her. Check ahead.
