NEF R22 WMRF Uses NEF R92 .22lr Cylinder

Hello!
I recently acquired an NEF R22 WMRF 6-shot revolver. I had to replace some parts, but I got it back into good working condition. I had some NEF R92 .22 9-shot cylinders laying around, so I tried one of them in the R22. I couldn't believe that it functioned perfectly. It indexed dead-on. and cycled smoothly.
Is this just a fluke, or will the same size cylinders for the same type of revolver always interchange? Has anyone ever heard of this before?
Thanks for your help!

Sometimes you get lucky when interchanging cylinders, sometimes you don't.

Typically the cylinder's "star" for the ratcheting is the fitted part of a revolver. But sometimes they don't need any work because of good overall tolerances being kept throughout production.

Hit really is a hit/miss thing which tends to be more hits with better qualify manufacturers, and more misses with lessor manufacturers.

I know Ruger says they need to fit theirs. I wanted to order the mag cylinder for my Ruger single six but they told me I had to send the gun in to get it fitted. I do think it is hit or miss because I know guys that have done this.
