I have been looking for one of these for a couple of years in .38/.357....No joy!!

I put a WTB in a few places and, finally, Monday I received an email that they had some in stock. I immediately sent in my order; I had no idea how many they had received. Then I read where Rossi/Taurus/Braztec/etc./whatever had stopped making Ranch Hands!! That made for even more reason to grab one while I could.

I arrived yesterday. Now to load up some rounds and get out back to see if it was all worth while!!

I have owned one of them even though I never fired a shot through it. I hope you enjoy your gun! I will tell you the story of the Ranch Hand that I briefly owned.

When these first hit the market, I just had to have one. I decided that I could not live without one! Then, I happened to be at Fort Gordon, GA, and wandered into the sporting goods department of the PX. There it was, bigger than life, a Rossi Ranch Hand in .44 Magnum for $444. I also just happened to have had a PX credit card for about 10 years and had never used it. They were having a "deal" for 10% off on first purchase with the PX credit card, so I bought it for $399 and some change.

They walked me out of the store and handed me my new gun with the instructions that I had to leave the post immediately. Before I got 10 miles from from the PX, I had buyer's remorse. What in the hell was the purpose of such a gun, it was good for nothing, not a pistol, not a rifle. The PX has a no return policy on guns so I was "stuck" with it. When I got home, I put it up for sale on a Georgia based forum called The Outdoor's Trader and sold it with two days. I sold tt for a profit and paid off that PX credit card and have never used it since, and that was probably 6 or 7 years ago.

I know they have them at our LGA here. I was in there today and saw them. That is one gun I never had a need for. I like lever rifles and western guns but this one just didn't appeal to me.

I held on at a gun show and couldn't see how you could shoot in with any accuracy.

Now, now.....that is like asking about the NEED.........hell, all I NEED is one 12 ga shotgun, one .22 lr rifle, one .38 revolver, one .30 cal rifle.............all the rest are want!!

The Ranch Hand is too heavy for what it is......almost 5 lbs; it is unbalanced - haven't got out to actually shoot it yet but I'm guess it will be awkward...but, FUN.....

99% of my guns have no practical use other than it gets the old ticker pumping. We all have our quirks, like me for example I do not like 308 caliber rifles because I grew up shooting 30-06. Just wish they made precision rifles like they do for 308 without me having to pay $6000.

Not being from the great white north (Canada) I can't verify if this is true or not, but here goes. I read some where that these things are real popular in Canada. They don't have the 16" minimum barrel restriction there. These are being sold up there and the buyers are fitting them with rifle butt stocks, and are making very short handy carbines from them. I seem to remember Winchester made some lever gun carbines (trapper guns) with barrels as short as 11". These were legally sold until the NFA of 1934 was put into law books.

Hmmm, I hankered for a Marlin lever action back in the early 80's, and bought my little beast then. I was only loading .357's on my RockChucker at the time, and it fitted my needs, since my only center fire gun then was my Blackhawk. I still have both, and love 'em. They don't get the attention now that they did when I was young and dumber...my 45's have replaced them, but only in their use and activity. Ranch Hand may not be a "useful" item, but it might fill a "want" space. Just my 2 cents...

Want and need are really what fuels our economy. Selling cars years back, I filled lots of "wants" when it was not really a "need"
