I've carried a Kel-tec .380 daily (when in the U.S.) for over seven years now, and it has served me well.
But I ordered a Walther PPS M2 9mm today, and I expect it to quickly become my constant companion. It seems like it'll be Tuesday or Wednesday of next week before I actually get my hands on it, as my dealer isn't open Sunday or Monday.
$400 out the door.
I'll let you know my thoughts as soon as I get a chance to try it out.
I know that Kel-tec doesn't make top-notch weapons, but I have absolutely nothing to complain about with my experience. After the first 20 rounds or so--when I figured out that I needed to fix my grip--I have had zero failures of any kind. It has always fired and cycled correctly, no matter how dirty, wet, or beaten up it's been.
But I certainly expect to now have better trigger, sights, ergonomics, and finish.
I use blue loctite on the screws. The flexing and clip movement seems to loosen the screws on the clips and gun shell. Wait a bit before using the loctite as you need a little break in time to get the compression of the base settled in which is part of the friction that holds the gun in place. But pay attention to the screws daily for a bit to make sure you don't lose the screw and parts that it uses. I have a couple AG's and they are great (SF comp 45 and PT111G2).
There are good and bad guns in every design as variances do occur. There are Hi-points that fire anything and everything 100% of the time. There are Kimbers that are useless for a carry gun as they are unreliable. You just never know until you know.
Great!!
I would like to change carry weapons too but can't bring myself to do it at my age. My carry has been a Walther PPKs 380 for as long as I can remember. I don't think I could get used to the feel and the learning to use a new gun. That old Walther and I are joined at the hip after all these years. Go for it.
We've had people here at the camp since Sunday afternoon (spring break), but they finally went home this evening. I only had a few minutes before I had an appointment, but I got to fire just a little bit.
The seven-round magazine fits my whole hand. It's nice.
The six leaves my pinkie free, but there's not enough recoil to make much of a difference.
Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase.
The holster should be in tomorrow's mail, so I'll get to try carrying it then. And hopefully have some time to put a few more rounds through it.
I'm not in love with the Alien Gear holster. I'm going to keep it, but I don't think it'll get a lot of use. I just don't think my body is shaped well for IWB carry at the 4:00 position. (I have basically no butt. My back just becomes my legs, and so anything back there is really obvious.)
