Just looking for ball parked opinions as this is so subjective. Before you'd invest in a trigger for target only, what would you prefer the group size to be before the expense? Also what change in group size have you experienced after the change? Plx mention the brand you chose.
If I had my druthers I'd reintroduce the Canjar single set trigger. I prefer them over all others, BUT the company folded when the owner passed away. Since I cannot have new Canjar triggers, Jard triggers are great, offered in a dizzying array of choices, and are even more inexpensive than Timney. For example, I have Jard triggers in my own personal ARs I built. They're between 100-150$, and offered in adjustable, non adjustable, straight, curved, single stage, or 2 stage, and in 1/2 pound weights ranging from 1.5#, to 5#. I have a 1.5# single stage in a bull barreled AR, and it's perfectly reliable. They make triggers for a LOT of other applications.
These two things will give you the benefit of a $175 drop in trigger.
This trigger mod gave me the same results as the RRA 2 Stage Match I have on a similar gun
Same barrel, twist etc.
The trigger isn't all that's needed for smaller group sizes, but its a big part of the overall solution.
Barrel profile and twist rate plus other variables must be factored in.
Thanks db, I'll check out the vids after lunch.
I've had good success w/ Timneys in my bolt. But my ar's are just hill burners anymore. I have one lower and stock completed but no upper as I am waiting until I find the longer barreled 223 wylde, rifle gas, bull, etc for the upper. Thought I'd stick a geissele in it but curious to check w/ you guys on your preferences.
I have Timney triggers on all of my ARs.
They break clean. A clean break makes a cleaner hit weather target or hunting.
But they do cost some money.
Mike
