My wife and I recently watched a Forensic episode that chronicled a crime in Canada where a perp killed a young man and woman (raped her) and then killed an older person in the house. The crime started as the young couple (out in the front yard) were approached by the perp. Suddenly he grabbed the woman and held a knife to her throat. The young man complied with the perps demands, all three went into the house... the rest is history.
After watching the show I told my wife I think the young man should have ran like hell, screaming at the top of his lunges (it was a residential area) the moment he realized the perps intent. Even if the perp would have killed the woman at least only one dead rather than 3. I also think there is even money that the perp could have been frightened off at that point. My wife thinks the young man should have immediately lunged at the perp in the hope he would have been surprised and discombobulated him enough to run.
Any thoughts on this???

Joe, those two dogs were rescue dogs, Kathy took Wienee on at a week old and had to hand feed him, literally, he couldn't nurse from a bottle so she had to feed it to him from the palm of her hand, Lolo had mange so bad you couldn't tell if she was a dog or a naked mole rat. Both would have been dead had she not fought so hard to save them.

The pair of them are gentle as kittens although more than a little noisy whenever anyone comes to the gate, but if you act in the least bit aggressive towards their Mamma or if they sense she is afraid of someone, their inner pit bull comes out.

I pity the fool who ever tries to harm her with them around.

Dogs scare me more than people. You can be in a whole world of hurt very quickly. I have had two close encounters with aggressive dogs but fortunately never mauled.

Dogs are frankly the main reason I carry. It seems today everyone and their mothers uncle has pit bulls but I don't remember ever seeing them when I was a kid.

Times are changing.

When I lived in CA, back in the 70's, I had a part time job at a gas station, working nights. I was in the AF at that time, and was just trying to make some extra money. Some fool came up with a knife to rob me while I was putting gas in a car. I didn't soak him with gas, but I did point the hose at him, and lit my Zippo, he got the message, and hauled butt. Two nights later another part time AF guy, who worked at the same station, was shot and killed while putting gas in a car. The shooter got nothing. And I don't recall that he was ever caught by the cops.

My parents raised me to stand up and be counted. In this situation, you have to realize that someone is going to bleed. A knife at the throat is never a good situation. I have not been well trained in hand to hand combat but still, threaten my wife, and I'm going to go Tasmanian Devil on your butt. I may end up dead but I'm not going to just stand for it. Even if I did just let it happen and the perp let us all live, my wife would literally kill me after, so I might as well go down fighting and with my pride than with the thought that I just let my wife be violated. Again, someone is going to bleed. It may be me, it may be my wife, but I'm going to make sure that some of that blood is the assailant's.

Blood = DNA, DNA = evidence. In my mind the goal is to get blood from the perp by any means possible. Wife scratches him, someone shoots him, hits him in the nose, cut him with his own knife (anyone who has been trained knows HollyWeird has no clue - actors hold knives the way they hold guns - the wrong way), whatever it takes to get blood out of the perp.

Eye witness evidence is unreliable and requires the witness to survive - blood does not lie. Unless the perp has an identical twin with no alibi, make that sucker bleed. At least that way there is a high probability he will be caught and convicted even if you are not present to see it happen.

Jump the perp, do not comply or get tied up in the house.

Well since now my wife is my ex-wife, if the perp had a knife to her throat i would hand him my gun so he would be better equipped. Shes a Police officer so he's gonna need a gun!

Seriously, i know we all try to be set up for just such scenerios and always aware but for most of us there are times our guards are down. Sitting on the porch watching deer or birds, reading a book, or more common these days, our faces in our phones. We look up and the bg is on us. Me and my gf try to be prepared but if someone got the drop on us and had a knife to her throat he's gonna have to move the knife away from her and account for me cuz you, her, and the perp can rest assure.....im coming with bad intent!

I'd imagine all kinds of comments would be coming out of my mouth. Depending on whether or not my wife actually trusts me says whether or not if still be married. "Hey! Thanks for saving me on a divorce lawyer!" Once he's off his game a bit, that's when I would attack. Him, not my wife.
