General Revolver Question and Repair

I've got a H&R Young American Double Action .32 model 1905 that I bought as "doesn't work" with intention to learn minor gun smithing skills. The problem that so far it is single action only, and it is now in firing order after some other repairs. pull the trigger and bang every time for the full cylinder rotation, check. If I cock the hammer back it does not stay all the way, it will roll forward to about 1/8 of an inch of the way to where the primer would sit with correct alignment and stay there until trigger is pressed, but the trigger does not get any lighter if at all, maybe a pound or 2 from a 12 pound trigger pull to begin with.

From all that I've read and watched in my minor experience (I've done basic field strip, cleaning, sight installation, etc.) there is always a spring inside the grip the presses against the hammer, I'm finding a metal bar that is bent instead of a spring if that makes a difference at all.

Could anyone give me some insight as to what I can do here?

That flat metal "bar" is the main spring, which provides the force to drive the hammer forward. The full cock notch on the hammer is not engaging the sear properly, which causes the hammer to fall into the safety notch. I suspect that both the sear and hammer are worn and may need to be replaced, but if there's enough metal left, you might be able to resurface them. New ones can be found at Numrich, but some parts - like the sear spring - may not be available anymore. Even with new parts, though, you can expect to do some hand fitting to get them to engage properly.

I ended up taking it all apart again after posting it and watching everything operate without the main spring resetting it each time until I saw I had the hammer seated incorrectly, pull the trigger, hammer rolls back and locks in position and trigger becomes still, re-installed main spring after everything is seated into position, and it started working perfectly.

Nothing is all that worn, it originally was showing rust but I've gone over it all with 0000 steel wool. When I get home Ill post pictures, see if anybody points out anything else I'm doing wrong. Can only learn from my mistakes.
